Creative Things To Do With Your Old Wooden Garage Doors

If you have had enough with the repairing of your old wooden garage doors and you are ready for a replacement, you might want to think about some creative things to do with the old door. Sure, you could send it to the landfill, but why do that when it might still have plenty of life left in it for other things? Even if you end up not needing it, you might have a friend or family member who could use it for one of the following suggestions.
Build A Play House
Do you have a child that really wants a custom built playhouse? If you have some old wooden garage doors, you should be able to use those as the walls and possibly for the beginning of your roof. Just make sure that you are using extra long industrial screws to hold it all together. Without the extra long screws, you might find yourself having trouble getting the screws all of the way through the wood and then far enough into what you are screwing it into. The extra length is for added stability. If you use pieces of your old garage doors for the roof of a playhouse, you will want to add a layer of spare shingles or a sheet of metal in order to help keep moisture out and prevent the roof from growing mold.
Make A Headboard
Have you always wanted a super creative headboard for your bed? If so, then you can always make use of your old wooden garage doors. Simply cut them down so that they are the width of your bed. Then, you can cut the length to whatever size you desire the most. Some people like really tall headboards while other people enjoy something a little simpler. Go ahead and paint or stain the wood before attaching it to the wall behind your bed. Just make sure that you purchase several extra long industrial screws. You need these screws so that they reach all of the way through the wood and then far enough into the wall studs. Otherwise, you might find that the headboard could come crashing down on you in the middle of the night.
As you can see, there are a lot of things that can be done with the old doors that no longer have a purpose in your garage. Just make sure that you are getting as much use out of those old doors as possible before you throw them out with the trash.
